Convo Control

Convo Control

Once again, our French campaign kicked off in style with Convo (Daniel MacAuliffe & Anoj Don) who cruised to victory in the Prix du Debut at Saint-Cloud on Thursday 21st March.  Having won the race last year with Myconian for the same owners, winning the first two year old race of the European calendar was something we wanted to keep under our belts.  Although there were surprisingly few runners declared (6) compared with last year (13) there is always an element of doubt when running unraced two year olds.  We were certain the ability was there based on her work at home, however, you never know what the opposition has up their sleeve.

Convo, with Tony Piccone up, jumped smartly from the gates and sat in second shadowing the leader who set sub 12 second sectionals over the first three furlongs.  With the going described as heavy, the fast early pace began to take its toll on the leader leaving Convo to ease into the lead with minimal effort and score by 5 lengths.  After a celebratory fruit juice post race, it was homeward bound later that day which, door to door, takes approximately 8 hours.  As with all our horses, Convo was turned out into a paddock for a few hours the following day.  Imagine our surprise when we found her doing handstands and springing round the paddock as if the day before had never happened.

Purchased as a foal by Matt Coleman (Stroud Coleman Bloodstock) from the Goffs November Foal Sale in 2022, Convo was then grazed at Culworth Grounds in Banbury until she arrived at Southgate Stables.  She was eye catching from very early on and has done everything we have asked of her up to this point with ease.  We will now regroup to formulate a plan and while we are not quite at the top hat and tails stage just yet it also a very real possibility.
