Ascot Dreams Thegreatestshowman

Having had our first runners at Cheltenham Festival in March, this Royal Ascot week will see us also having our first runners at the Royal meeting. Both Kapono and Thegreatestshowman head into this week in great form and I could not be happier with them. All being well between now and then they will both run in the Windsor Castle Stakes on Saturday. It is very exciting for a yard of our size to have horses good enough to take to these big meetings in just our second season training, it’s a huge testament to all my whole team.

I was very impressed by the way Kapono scored at Goodwood last month, powering clear in the closing stages. He has previously run in what has turned out to be a useful event at Brighton. That track was where Thegreatestshowman won just under a couple weeks ago. It was great for him to get his head in front. He had failed to stay the stiff six at Pontefract the previous time out. The yard has been in great form so far this year and we have already racked up nine winners, which has eclipsed last years total. This has all been achieved from Hamilton Stables, which we will be leaving over the course of the next month or so having recently purchased Southgate Stables, just down the road from the entrance to the Rowley Mile. I am very grateful to Michael Wigham for letting us rent Hamilton Stables, it has been a fantastic place to get started from, however it has always been the idea to purchase our own place.

                                                                                                                        (Kapono winning at Goodwood)

The new yard is a hugely exciting acquisition for us which will offer easier access to all of Newmarket’s world-renowned gallops as well as more boxes in order for us to expand up to 60 horses. There is also an indoor ride which will be hugely helpful both. Southgate Stables is currently split into three differing areas, which will be brought together like it used to be historically. With the room for expansion at the new yard, I have been out and sourced several horses on spec, these horses are still for sale, so please do get in contact with me if you would like to get involved!

(Shes Queen - One of our horse's currently for sale)

Away from Ascot and the yard move, the horses are running well and pleasing me. Mercian King kept up his fine record with another solid run at the weekend on ground which had been watered and wouldn’t have suited him. Bear Valley also made a pleasing debut at Sandown on Saturday. Looking towards entries this week, Entertaining Ben and She’s Queen both run at Lingfield on Thursday, Sandkissed is entered at Wetherby on Friday however looks unlikely to get in, she is pleasing me and has put together a pair of solid back to back runs. The Accountant and The Jungle Vip are both due to run at Market Rasen on Friday in the juvenile hurdle. While I expect Really Super to put in a big run here at HQ on Saturday.
